So my name is not really Trevor, but Trevor is our farm’s donkey mascot and one of our main animal characters. We like to joke that the farm came with its own ‘Dogs & Donkeys’ and they have provided much fun and work, as well as the additional cost for their care.
The dogs are Jack & Jill. They are a mix of Rottweiler and Hound dog and are the sweetest pair of dogs a farm could want. One of the first challenges we faced was an abscess that our farm dog “Jack” had when we took possession in Feb 2014. Jack had something going on in his mouth & face that was stinky, grossly green and drooling. One of several visits to the local vet got him cleared up & back to full health. Turns out he had a bone stuck sideways in the roof of his mouth for several weeks prior. He lost 4 of his teeth and a portion of the roof of his mouth, but he’s otherwise fully healed and he’s put on 10 lbs since we first took possession.
There are 3 donkeys that also came with the farm. Two jennies (girls) named Tara and Tina. They are an inseparable pair that roam freely across one pasture that includes a stream and an old barn. There’s some more fence mending that needs to be done, but the jennies are completely content where they’re at. Then there’s Trevor…. He’s the jack (boy donkey) in a separate pasture across the road with a more secure fence line. Apparently he likes to escape, so when he got out long ago, the previous owner was able to direct him into his current pasture. He likes to prance, bray and show off for the jennies each day. Sometime this spring/summer we’ll try to move him over with them. We’ll keep you posted on how that goes. 🙂
